Panels
This year's panels will be held on Sunday, March 16th at the Courtyard by Marriott from 12pm-4pm.
12:00 pm Raqs Gothique: The Art of Gothic Bellydance
Drama, romance, and intensity combined with the serpentine mystery,
sensuality, and beauty of Gothic Bellydance (or Raqs Gothique) has become an art form all its own, embodying dark emotion, extreme contrast, mystique, power...the shadowy side of Bellydance. In this workshop Aepril Schaile will show us new techniques for this dark art; she'll also touch on the costuming, props, and music that are used by the Gothic Bellydancer.
Aepril's background in theater and mythology combined with her creativity and style of movement incline naturally toward exploring mythic themes and infusing meaning and story into her dance. Working through the ancient, and ever-evolving, art of Bellydance, she becomes Trickster, Warrior, Ghost, Storm, Grieving Mother, Killer, Seductress, her performances invoking the archetypal Dark Feminine shamanistically and theatrically. Beginning with Raks Sharqi/Cabaret as her foundation in 1996, she brings Raqs Gothique and Tribal fusion bellydance, modern, interpretive, and ballet influences to her dance as well. www.aeprilschaile.com
