Blacksun IV Invitational Art Show
...so what is it?
It's an artist-created venue, in an artist created venue. A wise woman once told me that if i were throwing the show, I should show in the show. That was Gia Manalio, and if it weren't for her brilliantly timed interventions (note the plural) there wouldn't be any art shows at BSF, it would all still just be an idea. Somehow it turns into a dance party too. Funny that.
Here we represent a small slice of the interesting and beautiful imagery that is being created in the world, deep down in the trenches. None of these artists are famous. Not even a little. Well, maybe a little, but really-how famous do artists get these days? It's not like we get to put our work up in 8 foot tall backlit frames at the mall like those brilliantly oversaturated Target ads with the smiling people wearing clothes. To tell you the truth-I don't know who designed the ads for Target and I don't want to. But I saw this cool painting I liked at a party once, and I think you'll like it too. So I invited the artist to show it.
There are always new ways of creating images, and there are always old ways, and there are always ways of combining them. There's so much going all the time, so much beauty rushing by at every moment that it's a wonder-a surprise even-when someone stops to capture or create a moment of it. It's like watching a meteor shower... "Did you see THAT? Did you SEE that?" With a meteor shower you never get the chance to see it again, and unfortunately, all too often, that happens with good art too. The great news is, you can close your eyes and hold it in your mind, and that's how unforgettable the art show is at BSF 4 is going to be. Here's a chance to see some amazing work by some people who aren't selling you anything. Just making some art.
