The Blacksun Festival has more than DJ’s and Bands!

We have a special event planned for the afternoon of Saturday, August 6th. This event will take place at Alchemy, which is a very swank venue that is only a couple of block from Toad’s Place (our main concert venue). The event will be kicked off with performances from some of New England’s finest bands – Nightcrawler 1947, Platform One, and mindFIELD.

Following the bands will be a screening of short films in the front lounge in Alchemy. First is ‘The Leprous Menace’ by Alexander Zaslow. This film is a satire of the 50's-era Civil Defense films (ie: Duck and Cover). Next is Jay Kantor ‘So You've Decided You Want to Become a Goth’ which is a 1950’s educational spoof.

At 4:20pm on Saturday you will be treated with an :angeldustrial: performance. Whether they are dancing to promote the latest underground Boston-based electronic acts, to model new and interesting fashions from up-and-coming designers, or simply to inspire impure thoughts in audiences all around New England, [:angeldustrial:] is a performance troupe that is sure to turn some heads. Formed in 2000 under the direction of choreographer Jennifer McClain, they have performed five consecutive years at the annual B&D Ball at Manray in Cambridge, in addition to such venues as Downtime in NYC and Club Hell in Providence. They have also produced fashion shows for Miko Exoticwear of Providence, as well as Boston's own Aphrodite Asphodel. Known for their sleek style, innovative use of sets and props, and most especially, their distinctive and original form of dancing (imagine Bob Fosse and Janet Jackson having a dance-off... clad in latex, of course), [:angeldustrial:] has made an indelible mark on the New England industrial scene.

The afternoon's festivities will end with the Techstyles Fashion Show. The horror actress and goithic model Diviana Devour will be MCing this event. Cool threads from Faernyn’s Grove, Betty Sioux, and Future State will be featured. Dreads and extensions will also be model for you courtesy of Animeamazon. Between designers will be performances from Circus Delecti, New Haven’s own variety performance troupe.

Sunday afternoon is an event that is truly unique – a picnic hosted by Voltaire. You will be able to lounge around on the New Haven Green as you are being entertained by Voltaire. You may bring your own food or purchase some from one of the many café’s that are close by.
